Who are you writing your book for?
three essential questions for non-fiction writers
Book writing is no small feat. That is why we must be clear on why we are writing it, who we are writing for, and what we want the book to be.
To write your why, who, and what statement–set your timer for twenty minutes and write three separate paragraphs for each why, who, and what for your book idea.
Feel free to use these questions as prompts for each paragraph:
Why am I writing this now?
Who is my reader?
What will this book be?
Once you finish these three paragraphs, condense them down to a single sentence by combining them all together. For example) my why was to write about my trauma recovery. My who was for survivors so that they feel less alone. My what is in the form of a memoir. Once I condense them into a sentence, it would look something like this:
“I am writing this book because it’s time to share the story about my trauma recovery so that women and survivors alike can feel seen in their experience, as told in a memoir.”
Now, it’s your turn to write your why, who, what statement. I’m cheering you on!
