Hi, y’all; I always like to share what I’m reading with ya each month. There are a number of different genres, and styles I like to read from to shift my perspective. Here are the reads that have been really transformative for me this month. I hope they inspire you as well. :)
1. The Chronology of Water by Lidia Yuknavitch
I came across Lidia’s work a few years ago, but this is actually the first full-length book I’ve read about her. My editor suggested it as she said her style reminded her of mine. Well, after reading it, I am very humbled. Lydia’s writing is extraordinary, so corporeal and so freaking raw. In honesty, I only hope to be in my work. Highly recommended if you’ve never read this memoir.
2. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
I’m not sure how I came across this novel. I think it was recommended in my local bookstore. I was immediately hooked because it is told in first person from the perspective of a Pacific octopus held in captivity. It is truly unique and remarkable. Do yourself a favor and pick this up for your next novel.
3. Things To Do Instead of Killing Yourself by Tara Booth and Jean-Micheal Booth
The title and art grabbed my attention immediately. I was intrigued, triggered, and so, so, so curious. I needed to know what this book was about. It is so incredibly hilarious and also breaks up the mental health stigma that so many of us get tangled up by. At least, I know I still do. This art book made me laugh out loud and feel less alone at the same time.
