Human Design for Writers & Creatives
Learn your unique gifts as a writer, creative, and maker
Human Design is a wonderful tool for better understanding ourselves and how we best operate in the world. I wish I had known about this years ago, as it has validated my work as a writer, artist, and coach.
“IN THE MOMENT YOU CAN TRULY EMBRACE UNIQUENESS, YOU ARE DIVINE. ”
— Ra Uru Hu
First, what on earth is Human Design? Think science and spirituality had a baby to give you a blueprint of your energetic makeup based on your date, time of birth, and location. Every single person has a unique design, and when we understand ours, we can live into our creative potential with confidence and clarity. If you are a fan of Enneagram, Strength Finder, Myers-Briggs, and the million other personality tests, then this one will rock your socks off.
Breaking it down: Human Design is a system that combines modern science with ancient modalities like Western Astrology, The I Ching, The Chakra System, and Kabbalah, The Tree of Life. Using your birth information, Human Design tells you how your energy is unique, how you intuit decisions, and what your life purpose is.
As a writing coach and creative mentor, I have used Human Design to create a specific reading to support writers, artists, and makers in discovering what they are called to write and create, identifying the blocks, and offering direction in their creative careers.
Take my own Human Design as an example: My profile is a 4/6 sacral manifesting generator. which means I am a role model/ opportunist. That is why I’m multi-passionate, work quickly, and impact people around me most when I’m writing from my deepest desire (even if it doesn’t make sense to others.) My type gives me hyper-focus to work really quickly if I’m passionate about what I’m working on (Think a book a year). This only works if my energy is focused on one creative project at a time with dedicated time blocking.
Speaking of time-blocking and writing rituals. I have a number of gates (think personality traits) that support dedicated, focused energy. For example, gate 5 is fixed patterns. This gate defined makes rituals and rhythms really important to me. Having a consistent time to write, along with sacred space and practice is essential to keep your focus. If I don’t have this, then I will lean into that writer’s resistance. Also, with gate 9, the gate of focus, I can work on a specific task for long periods with unblocked attention. Lastly, Gate 14 gives me the incredible ability to sustain creative work for hours at a time. This is why I can work head down for five — to eight hours at a time when I am on a specific project.
In terms of what I am meant to write, my G-center and throat are defined, meaning I would do well to share my identity and direction in life. I also have the 1034 channel, which is the research channel. This channel specifically drives me towards self-knowledge and self-improvement. With this channel, I would do well to write within the genre of self-help, speaking from my own area of expertise and lessons that have been gleaned over the years. (Hello to my book Brave The Page, which is being published next year and is in total alignment with this).
Lastly, As a creative career, I have The Artist Channel (0108), which means I am made to create and share with the world. I am multi-passionate as a Manifesting Generator and can handle a lot of different spinning wheels that go along with being creative marketing, the business of writing, and so on. It makes sense, as I love the diversity of running multiple storytelling platforms, being a writing coach, editor, and artist, and writing my own books.
